“When I was a kid, I had two jobs,” said Jay Leno. “I worked at a Ford dealership and at a McDonald’s. I’d spend the money from one job and save the money from the other. That’s still the way I am now. I live on the money I make as a comedian, and I put all the TV money in the bank. I’ve never spent a dime of TV money ever.”
I think there are 3 main points we can take away from Jay Leno’s saving technique.
1- It’s actually a good idea to work hard, stay later, and put in extra effort than the average work. Often times it is in the small extra efforts where big money and big results can be made!
In life there are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile. Jay is a prime example of this. It wasn’t necessarily his job, it was his way of thinking. Jay started at lowly McDonald’s and a Ford Dealership. But that did not stop him. Jay kept his saving money mind set and little by little he was able to work his way up to his dream job of comedian and TV host. Not only that but by keeping his saving money mentality he has more money than most people dream of, and it all started with a little hard work and saving.
2- Develop the habit of saving money. Jay got into the habit at a very young age when he had a simple job at McDonald’s. What do you think his co-workers thought of him then? They may have thought he was crazy to save money. They probably thought it was silly for him to dream such big dreams. But he stuck to it. He had persistence. He ignored the criticism of others. Which brings us to point 3.
3- Ignore the criticism of others. It is often derived from their own feeling of lack inside themselves. In other words when you tell someone you are going to start saving money in hopes of being big time someday they may criticize, not because they don’t think you’ll make it, but because they wish they had the drive and the persistence to make it themselves.
That’s why it is so important to read blogs like these, read magazines, books, audio programs that will teach you about how to save money and how to reach your goals. Surround yourself with positive like minded people that inspire you to be the best person you can become!
